Great step forward on HIV travel ban2.13.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 20th Jul 2008
DELGA Chair Jen Yockney has welcomed news that the US Senate has voted to remove the ban on people who have HIV entering the USA. This does not repeal the ban of itself but opens the door to the US Department of Health doing so. The policy dates back to the time of Ronald Reagan's presidency in the 1980's, when understanding about HIV transmission was far less advanced. London Lib Dem MEP Sarah Ludford has been spearheading a campaign in the European Parliament to use the EU's muscle internationally to press the USA to revoke the ban. You can find out more about the issue and the campaign to revoke the ban by following the link below. Related Link:Read more about Sarah Ludford's campaign.
