SUCCESSFUL PARADE AND STALL AT LONDON PRIDE 20089.25.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 5th Jul 2008 A very successful day for DELGA at Pride London 2008, where our members took part on the parade as part of the walking groups, on a warm, sunny but blustery afternoon in London. The response from the throngs of spectators lining the route from Baker Street to Trafalgar Square was very positive and appreciative towards us and we stood out well with our luminous yellow barrier, with black lettering "LIBERAL DEMOCRATS 4 LGBT ACTION". See pictures!
After the parade was concluded, all our members moved the stall at Trafalgar Square, where we were also joined by London's Euro-Candidates already campaigning for 2009 European Elections. One of the main issues the European candidates are campaigning on, led by Sarah Ludford MEP, is HIV Discrimination by the USA and petition signatures were collected by DELGA on the stall. We picked up a great many signatures, and a lot of support was received on this issue.
Liberal Democrat party leader,The Rt Hon Nick Clegg MP addressed the crowds at Trafalgar Square once the parade had concluded - emphasising the need for the fight against homophobic bullying and to ensure tolerance and freedom for all LGBT communities to which our party is at the forefront of ensuring those views are maintained, to which the crowd gave him a warm ovation. All in all, a great London Pride, enjoyed by all and DELGA's representation was visible and vibrant! Related Link:Find out more about the End HIV Discrimination campaign.
