Gay news website PinkNews.co.uk has published their roundup of the most influential LGBT people in British politics this year - and seven of them are high-profile Lib Dems, including Bristol MP Stephen Williams, Party President Simon Hughes, London Mayoral candidate Brian Paddick, and Britain's first out transsexual mayor, Jenny Bailey.

Also noted for their profile and influence were the leader of Cardiff city council Rodney Berman, and MSPs Iain Smith and Margaret Smith.

DELGA Chair Jen Yockney said, "It's good to see some recognition of the range of openly LGBT people we have in public office as a party. It was notable that the Lib Dems were the only party with lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people making PinkNews' list. Indeed the list is overwhelmingly lesbian and gay, a fact sadly reflecting the relative progress of the different strands of the LGBT community in profile and public acceptance."
